When is The Best Time for Annapurna Base Camp Trekking?

The summer monsoon pretty much defines the trekking seasons in Nepal, and this applies to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek as well. The monsoon lasts from roughly June to August so most trekkers like to trek in either the spring months of March to May or the autumn months of September through November. In these periods, you’ll have great, stable trekking conditions with nice temperatures, rhododendron forests in bloom during spring and great panoramic mountain views in autumn.

However, Annapurna Base Camp can be trekked all year round. The winter months (December through February) bring snow on the trail and a certain peace and tranquility, while during monsoon, everything is lush green, with far fewer people on the trails if you’re after some solitude. Whenever you’d like to go, our guide team will create an unforgettable Annapurna Base Camp Trekking tailored to your wishes and make sure you fully enjoy your trip.

Facilities and Essentials for Annapurna Trekking Region

Electricity

Teahouses on the trekking trail provide a charging facility at a minimal extra cost. Carry necessary adapter and portable power banks for backup as charging points could be less, shared or unavailable due to other trekkers.

Water

Prioritize safe drinking water. Bottled mineral water can be purchased from route shops/lodges. Otherwise, you can carry your reusable bottle and refill it with boiled water (using a filter or iodine tablets before consuming). Do not drink from tap, river well or other untreated sources, which may lead to stomach infections.

Hot Showers

There are a few places you can get hot showers along the trek. Gas-powered showers in guesthouses usually cost a couple of dollars, and that will be your most reliable bet for warm water as you will actually see a gas heater heating the water there. However facilities are basic. Most Teahouses have lukewarm or cold shower water available. You won’t always get heated rooms either, so prepare yourself for some freezing post-shower moments.

Communication Services

Communication infrastructure in the Annapurna region has developed considerably, which means trekkers have reliable communication options. Several mobile networks provide high-quality voice calls and SMS services over many trekking routes. Teahouses/lodges spread along the trail usually have internet access, but it is available at extra cost. Mobile internet coverage is expanding, especially in the lower altitude areas, giving access to browsing, emails and social media. In general, mobile signals are strong at places like Pokhara or the initial section of a trek but get weaker as we gain height. Trekkers can buy Nepalese SIM cards at Kathmandu or Pokhara for cheap communication.

Short Annapurna Base Camp Trekking Permit Costs

You need to have two permits to do the Annapurna Base Camp Trek – 8 days those are the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekker Information Management System (TIMS) card. Permit Cost Breakdown:

  • ACAP for SAARC nationals: NPR 1,000
  • ACAP for other international travelers: NPR 3,000
  • TIMS card for all foreign nationals: NPR 2,000

Permits to trek in the Annapurna region can be obtained at Kathmandu or Pokhara through authorized trekking agencies. Trekkers are required to carry a valid identification document with them throughout the trek, and it needs to be shown at the checkpoint. The permit fees are used to sustain and maintain the trails in local communities and villages, which are also used for other social welfare activities.
