Other factors that have an impact on the total cost of doing the Pikey Peak Trek include; seasons, programs, climate, and other factors. For instance, the price of treks during the festive season is much higher than that of other seasons of the year. We can also see, as with the type of itinerary, that the short ones will cost less than the longer ones. Let’s explore more in detail in the following:

Transportation Cost For Pikey Peak Trek

There are only two ways to start the Pikey Peak Trek. You have to either go for the conventional vehicle journey by jeep, drive to Dhap jeep, start the trek, or take a flight to Rumjatar Airport. Let’s explore both options below:

Travel By Road  (Ground Transportation)

Pikey Peak Trek starts from Dhap, which is among the most picturesque locations in the territory of the Everest Region. When it comes to traveling to that point by jeep or other ground transport, the trekkers have to spend about $ 250 to $300 per person. From Kathmandu to Dhap, it takes approximately 9 to 10 hours to reach the destination. Another recommended means of reaching Dhap from Kathmandu is by car, as the capital city of Nepal provides this facility.

Many trekking agencies, including us at Himalayan Discovery, facilitate you to drop you in a Jeep to the starting point of the trekking zone. If it is not, then one can hire transport from Kathmandu with the help of a guide or a local person. The drive will take you through the comfortable highway that was constructed with the help of the Japanese Government.

Travel By Air (Flight)

Though pikey peak trek is located in the lower Everest region, the entrance to trek is not Lukla unlike other Everest region treks like  EBC trek. Dhap is the starting point of the trip and for now, it may not be possible to get to Dhap by plane because it is still very far from the plane’s proximity. The nearest airport to the location is Rumjatar Airport, which is in Okhaldhunga, miles away from the starting point. But if you prefer to go by flight to Rumjatar airport from Kathmandu, then the flight fare is NRs. NRs. 4,345 per person. However, trekkers may have to hike from Rumjatar Airport to Tham Danda of Okhaldhunga. It will take at least a few hours to get to the place, or it can even take days. This trail goes to Rumjatar Bazaar beside Sanitar, where Sanitar Park is.

Cost of Hiring Guides and Porters For Pikey Peak Trek

The price of hiring guide services for the Pikey Peak Trek differs between $25 and $35 per day. However, it is not compulsory to hire a porter if you are on a Pikey Peak Trek. Since porters carry your heavy loads, backpacks, gears, and other necessities, you get to enjoy the trekking without carrying any loads. Porters for the day will be between $20 and $30.

  • Cost of hiring a guide for 9 days x $35 + 10% tip = approx $346
  • Cost of hiring a porter 9 days x $25 + 10% tip = $297

For this price, trekkers obtain such services as navigation, emotional, medical, and emergency services, and others. In addition, adventurers also get communication assistance, where guides can help the trekkers interact with locals of the society or orient them on the society and area. This will be helpful in real cultural experience since it provides details of the area, its history, and the people around it. Likewise, guides will be able to take you to beautiful spots and areas where you can capture excellent views of the area.

Another rule one has to follow during the trekking trip in Nepal is that any trekker cannot trek independently; he/she has to hire a professional licensed guide. As of the 1st of April 2023, the new regulation by the Nepal Tourism Board and The Nepal Government requires any tourist planning for a trek in Nepal to have a guide. Given the numerous incidents of injury, death, and missed experiences in the trekking business, the government wishes to develop this policy to improve the security of trekkers.

Cost of Accommodations Facilities on Pikey Peak Trek

Since you are going for this beautiful trek to Pikey Peak, you should be well equipped with the accommodation and logistic services and how to manage them. Pikey peak trek is a tea house trek that are set up by the Sherpa community of the area. While some places, like Jhapre, have many tea houses for accommodation, you may also require to stay in camps close to Pikey Peak Base Camp if you trek in peak season.

The tea houses in Khumbu will cost as low as $5 and as high as $7 per night per person. But you can often pitch your tent and prepare your meal if you want your lodging cost to be lower. Likewise, the tea house per night cost differs depending on the amenities and elevation. For instance, the price per night for staying at Pikey Peak Base Camp is from 10 USD to 20 USD. Nevertheless, prices can be as low as $7 for one night to $12 in Jhapre.

Traditionally, a tea house has two beds, pillows, and blankets and may even have an interior toilet. They have a large sitting area where you can eat food and meet other people in town. The mentioned eating areas have a fireplace in the middle to warm the people up.

As mentioned above, your cost may increase depending on the number of facilities you need. There may be a hot shower facility, but to use the facility, you may have to pay around USD 2 and 6. If your tea house has it, an electric blanket or heater will cost you an extra 20 bucks. In a similar case, the battery charging costs between USD 2 and 6 for an hour, and the power banks cost about USD 10. The internet is normally free but may cost as much as USD 2 to 5 per hour where the internet connection is poor, such as up in the mountains.

Meals Cost on Pikey Peak Trek Trail

The new trail is expected to offer slightly fewer options for food. The meals in most of the lodges are fixed and are not usually accompanied by many options.

Lunch and dinner will cost you roughly $5 to seven $7, making it a total of 10 to 15 dollars for the day. Breakfast is cheaper and will set you back between $3 and $5 daily. If you take 3 liters per day of water, it adds $6 to the total. This brings the daily meals and water cost to $ 21- $ 30 per head.

The Pikey Peak Trek normally lasts 9 days; hence the budget around USD 180-200 on food and water for the whole walk.

The food menu may include Dal Bhat (rice and lentils), fried noodles, and egg-fried rice. Lunches are eaten in the tea house found on the trail en route, whereas breakfasts and dinners are savored in the teahouses where the trekkers stay the night.
